Kantha quilts are rich in both color and history. Handmade utilizing colorful fabric patterns and irregular stitching, no two quilts are the same. Utilize one of these beautiful quilts as a comforter, tablecloth, picnic blanket, or a cozy couch throw. While “Kantha” is the Sanskrit word for rags, these beautiful quilts are anything but.
Originating from rural India and Bangladesh, Kantha is one of the oldest forms of embroidery. Kantha cloth has been made for centuries by women stitching together old saris and scraps of cloth. A simple running stitch along the edge of the cloth is most familiar, although women would also create elaborate patterns that would tell the story of families. The vibrant cloth is often made into useful items such as pillow covers, cushions, bags, scarves, and quilts.
